About Flügger group A/S

Flügger was founded in 1783 in Hamburg by Daniel Flügger. After World War II, all German property in Denmark was seized by the Danish state, including Flügger. When the state sold Flügger in 1948, the company’s Danish manager, Michael Schnack, acquired the company with the support of four major painting companies.

The secondary reason was to enable the part of the family that was not active in the company to sell their shares.

Strategy & Business

Our strategy, Flügger Organic, from 2024 focuses on organic growth, increased profitability and international expansion.

With Flügger Organic, the ambition is to expand the market potential by entering into structural partnerships with professional building markets as well as to grow internationally to achieve the right economies of scale and increased profitability across all markets – organically.

The strategy consists of five strategic areas; The Nordics, International, Brand, Simplification and Robustness.

Our overall vision is to be co-creators of a greener building materials industry, which we are working towards in our strategy, Flügger Organic.

Our mission is to advance the craft of painting through quality solutions, trusted partnerships and inspiring design choices.

Flügger is present in 19 countries with owned stores and franchise. The largest markets are the Nordic countries (Denmark, Sweden and Norway), where Flügger holds a leading market position.

In recent years, Flügger has grown significantly outside the Nordic region, especially in Poland and China.

With its original business model, Flügger has reached a natural limit in the Nordic markets. As costs rise, it is therefore essential to scale the business in other ways.

With the Flügger Organic strategy, we want to expand the market potential by entering into structural partnerships with professional construction markets as well as grow internationally to achieve the right economies of scale and increased profitability across all markets – organically.

Sustainability & Responsibility

Sustainability is an integral part of our strategy Flügger Organic – Delivering Sustainable Value.

We are working to reduce CO2 throughout our value chain, use more recycled plastic in the packaging of our products and reach 100% eco-labelled paint, among other things.

In the new strategy, Flügger Organic, we have chosen to expand our goal from being a carbon-neutral production to now include a carbon-neutral value chain by 2050. With a goal of carbon neutrality by 2050, our goal is in line with the Paris Agreement’s 1.5 degree target.

At Flügger, we use a climate action plan as part of our work towards a carbon-neutral value chain by 2050.

Read more about our climate action plan in the latest annual report here.

At Flügger, we have a Code of Conduct that applies to employees, business partners, suppliers, etc. and aims to ensure that activities are carried out in accordance with our DNA and values. We have guidelines in areas such as fair competition, anti-corruption, environment, workplace environment and human and labour rights.

In addition to the Flügger Code of Conduct, we also have a standard of behaviour for our suppliers in the form of our Supplier Sustainability Principles, which are included in the contracts we enter into. Our Supplier Sustainability Principles contain requirements for our suppliers’ business behaviour, human and labour rights and environmental considerations. In recent years, we have expanded the environmental considerations to include requirements that our suppliers take into account e.g. deforestation and biodiversity.

Find our Code of Conduct and Supplier Sustainability Principles here.

At Flügger, we have high ambitions and work every day to push both ourselves and the industry in a more sustainable direction.
We work with the following ecolabels and certifications at Flügger:

Nordic Swan Ecolabelled paint meets the strictest environmental and chemical requirements and makes it easy to take care of the environment – and yourself. At the same time, it is also a label that sets requirements for the quality of the paint. This means that both the environment and quality are prioritised in our Nordic Swan Ecolabelled products.

Read more about the Nordic Swan Ecolabel here.

Like the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, paints labelled with the EU Ecolabel meet the strictest environmental and chemical requirements.

Paint with the Asthma Allergy Nordic label is beneficial for those who suffer from asthma, allergies or other sensitivities – and for anyone else who wants to avoid allergens and achieve a healthier indoor climate.

An EPD is an environmental product declaration that maps and documents the environmental impact of a building material. The declaration is a standardised method of providing information about energy and resource usage, as well as environmental impacts from the production, use and disposal of a building material. The EPD is therefore an important tool for consultants and builders who want to understand the overall environmental impact of a building.

Plastic paint buckets make up by far the largest amount of our packaging at Flügger. Our journey to become even more environmentally friendly took another big step forward when we launched buckets made from 50% recycled plastic in September 2024.

FSC® stands for Forest Stewardship Council®, which is an international labelling initiative and the world’s most ambitious global certification for responsible forest operations. It’s your assurance that the wood used in our professional brushes comes from well-managed forests and other responsible sources.

FSC® also ensures that animals and plant life are protected and that people working in the forest are guaranteed training, safety equipment and proper wages.

DGNB is a sustainability certification for buildings. This means that it is not the paint product itself that is DGNB certified, but a building. DGNB measures the life cycle of building materials, transport, energy and water consumption during and after construction, durability, accessibility and indoor climate.

Flügger provides DGNB declarations according to the criteria of DGNB Denmark. Products that are to be used for DGNB certified buildings must be assessed with regard to their pollutant content and emissions. Depending on the criteria for the individual product, a product can be assessed within 4 quality levels, and we have many products which meet the highest quality level 4.

Read more about DGNB certification here.

The M1 label aims to promote the development and use of materials for construction and decoration without harmful vapours released into the air.

The M1 label on a product is your guarantee that it has been tested in an independent laboratory and fulfils the criteria set for the label. In Flügger’s product assortment, it will primarily be indoor products such as spackling and paint that can be awarded the label, and we are continuously working to get the products classified.

We support and collaborate where it makes a difference.

At Flügger, we have a positive approach to receiving interns as we see it as a good opportunity to promote Flügger as a good workplace to potential future colleagues, just as we take social responsibility for helping a fellow citizen further their education or clarify their future career choice.

As a general rule, we enter into agreements with the following categories of interns:

  • Students in higher education programmes:
… who, as part of their education, will have a 3-6 month unpaid internship. This will typically be at the headquarter in Rødovre or at the Kolding office.

We are happy to assist in a work-testing programme for 4-12 weeks. This can be in any of the group’s functions.
  • Primary school pupils:
… who, as part of the 8th-10th grade in primary school, participate in a one-week work experience programme to gain more clarity about their future career choices. This can be in the shop, in the warehouse and in administrative functions.

Diversity Policy in Flügger’s Leadership Team:

Goals and Results 2024/2025

In accordance with Section 107d of the Danish Financial Statements Act, Flügger has defined diversity targets for the composition of the group’s Board of Directors, Executive Board, and overall workforce.

Board of Directors

When appointing the members in Flügger group A/S elected by the general meeting, we focus on both diversity and the individual members’ competencies and experience. Our goal is to ensure gender balance and a broad skill set aligned with the company’s core and strategic priorities.

We have defined specific targets for gender representation and independence on the Board:

  • We aim for the underrepresented gender to constitute at least 40% of the shareholder-elected board members (40/60%). In 2024/25, the Board consisted of one woman and three men, or 25/75%. According to the Danish Business Authority, this qualifies as gender balance.
  • At least half of the shareholder-elected board members must be independent under the Danish Recommendations on Corporate Governance. This requirement was met in 2024/25, with two out of four members classified as independent.

Management

The management of Flügger group A/S consists of three members: the CEO, CFO, and majority shareholder Ulf Schnack, who has been actively involved in the company since 1958.

Flügger has chosen not to define specific diversity targets for the management. This is because we prioritise insight, experience and relevant competencies when appointing executive members.

Other Management

Flügger aims for a gender composition in other management levels and the overall workforce where the underrepresented gender constitutes at least 40% (40/60%), aligning with the objective for the composition of the Board of Directors.

Flügger’s recruitment principles and guidelines further support Flügger’s diversity objectives and policy.

What we do:

We continuously strive to ensure diversity both at the leadership level and across all employee groups.

Our efforts are based on the following principles:

  • Flügger is a workplace that offers equal opportunities for all in a safe and non-discriminatory work environment.
  • We aim for a minimum of 40 % representation of each gender in our leadership roles and focus on fair and inclusive recruitment.
  • We comply with national and international standards on human rights and equality, and ensure fair employment conditions regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion or other personal traits.
  • We strive for equal pay for equal work, regardless of gender or other characteristics.
  • We do not tolerate bullying, sexual harassment, discrimination or offensive behaviour, and we actively prevent it through regular employee training.
  • We seek a diverse workforce of both young and experienced employees who can inspire and support our shared development.
  • The Board of Directors reviews the diversity policy at least once a year and updates it as needed.

What we believe in:

At Flügger, we believe that a diverse workplace and an inclusive work environment are valuable assets. We recognize and value individual differences and believe that diverse teams – including leadership – drive innovation, make better decisions and foster openness and tolerance across the organisation.

Flügger is committed to being a responsible employer. We recruit, promote and develop employees based on their skills and in a manner that supports diversity. This includes ensuring equal treatment regardless of gender, gender identity, social origin, sexual orientation, age, nationality, physical ability, disability, political beliefs, ethnicity, family status, religious beliefs or other ideologies.

In accordance with Section 107f of the Danish Financial Statements Act, we report annually on gender distribution in the Board of Directors and leadership levels in our annual report. For further data, please refer to our latest annual report here.
